About Barry

Barry was holding on to a guitar from a very early age.  By the time he was 12, he was forming a garage band, and by 14 he was playing at house parties with his first band.  Barry grew up listening to his older sisters rock and roll and his fathers country music.  His musical influences were varied and included Kiss, Chicago, Peter Frampton, and Elton John.

After earning his degree from Michigan State University in 1987, Barry started teaching and performing regularly in and around the Mid Michigan area.  He performs professionally on the guitar, piano, bass guitar, trombone, as well as lead and harmony singing.  He has opened up for such music greats as Travis Tritt, Eric Church, 38 Special, and many more.

Barry's writing style is contemporary country, with many of his rock and roll influences in the mix.  He was a contributing writer on the Stone Cold album Pride in 2007, writing 4 songs.  Since then he has written many songs that he has self recorded, and is currently promoting to get those songs nationwide in as many formats as possible.

In recent years, Barry has expanded his passion for teaching and performing into the digital world through his YouTube channel, Barry Clevenger Music. Launched with the goal of inspiring and educating musicians of all ages, the channel now boasts a thriving community of subscribers, many of whom are older adults fulfilling lifelong dreams of playing music.
